ISO 9001
First-off records for an ISO 9001 shop.
ISO 9001 does not use the term first article inspection. An ISO 9001 shop still has to show that its parts were checked against their drawings, with gauges it can vouch for, and that someone accountable released them. The one-page Basic FAI and the first-off record in ASdrawn keep that evidence together, tied to the balloons on the drawing it came from.
Shops without any certification follow the same steps for the same reason: every requirement checked, a record to show the customer, and fewer bad parts getting out the door.
What the record holds
Each row is something ASdrawn records, what it shows an auditor or a customer, and the clause of ISO 9001:2015 it gives evidence towards. Australia publishes the same text as AS/NZS ISO 9001:2016. The wording here is ours: for what each clause requires, read the standard.
| Recorded | What it shows | Clause |
|---|---|---|
| Every requirement ballooned on the drawing, with its actual and a pass or fail | The part was checked against each requirement on its drawing, and whether it met it. | 8.5.1, 8.6 |
| Part number, revision, job, and the lot or serial number | Which part the record belongs to, at which revision, on which job. | 8.5.2 |
| The gauge each reading was taken with, picked from your gauge list, with its calibration due date | What the part was measured with, and whether that gauge was in calibration when the reading was taken. | 7.1.5 |
| Nonconformances: what was wrong, the action, the disposition, the NCR number and who decided | What happened to a part that did not conform, and who made the call. | 8.7 |
| Who measured each reading and when; who checked the package and who released it | Who did the inspection, and who let the part go. | 8.6 |
Start small, move up without re-entering anything
Every run gives you the ballooned drawing, and the inspection sheet is one export away. The Basic FAI puts the header, every requirement with its result and gauge, the nonconformances and the sign-off on one sheet. When a customer asks for an AS9102 Rev C FAIR, Forms 1, 2 and 3 come from the same data.
Switching between Basic and AS9102 changes the package, never the data, and every release keeps the AS9102 workbook beside the Basic sheet. Measured results can be typed in at the machine or imported from a spreadsheet or a CMM’s CSV export, matched on balloon number.
What it is not
- ASdrawn cannot make a shop ISO 9001 compliant, and no tool can: your quality system does that. ASdrawn keeps records an auditor may ask to see.
- The gauge list is a name and a calibration due date. It is not a calibration system: certificates and calibration history stay where you keep them now.
- A reading taken with an overdue gauge, or one with no due date, is flagged on the package, never shown as clean. Whether the part can still go is the decision of the person releasing it.
- There are no corrective-action, audit or management-review modules.
