Weight is density times volume — the work is in the volume. A 500 mm length of Ø50 6061 bar is 2.65 kg; the same bar in 316 stainless is 7.85 kg. Why calculate stock weight before you cut?
Weight drives cost. Quoting material, booking freight, and checking a delivered bar against its mill cert all need the weight of a shape that is not on a scale yet. Weight is density times volume — the part that is easy to get wrong is the volume of a tube, hex, or ring, which this calculator handles for each stock form.
Pick the shape, enter the dimensions, choose a material for its handbook density, and read the weight in kg and lb. Handbook densities carry a small alloy-and-temper spread, so treat the result as a close estimate for quoting and sanity checks, not a certified mass.
